Plan for campfire night
Sequence of event:
1800-1830: Dinner for campers at the fellowship hall
1830-1900: Preparation for the campfire by getting the props and any last minute rehearsals. Gather around the campfire at the carpark.
1900-1930: Opening hymn, Pastor Heng lights the fire and another two more hymns
1930-1945: 1 game of modified bombing
1945-2045: Skit begins. Each group is allocated 15 minutes for the skit.
2045-2115: Exhortation by Pastor Heng
2115-2130: Appreciation of camp helpers
2130-2145: Slide Show for the camp
2145-2200: Announcement of results for the skit
2200 onwards: Clear up the place
Skit instructions:
1. Each group is named after a Bible character who is known to have a deep walk with God. Therefore the skit involves the group using an appropriate passage from the Bible regarding the character which the group is named after which is connected with the camp theme: steps to a deeper Christian life/walk with God.
2. Skit stories:
a. Team Abraham: God asks Abraham to sacrifice his son, Isaac (Genesis 22: 1-24). This reflects obedience to God, an essential element of a Christian life.
b. Team Job: the team is to enact three scenes depicting the moments of Job’s life before God took everything away, during the period when Job was stripped of everything and the period when God restored Job and blessed him with more. This reflects perseverance and endurance.
c. Team Elijah: the scene where Elijah challenges the prophets of Baal. (1 Kings 18: 16-40) This reflects faith in God to deliver us through challenges.
d. Team Paul: the conversion of Paul from Saul the persecutor to Paul the fervent missionary of God (Acts 9).
3. Each skit is to last for a maximum of 15 minutes and no longer.
4. The props for the skit are to be sourced out by the individual groups.
5. Brief the mentors first regarding the skit story before the camp starts. Get them to start talking about the skit during the free times or meal times in the first 3 days of the camp.
Modified bombing game:
1. The objective of this game is to get the campers excited for the campfire and to take the mind of the campers off the stress of the skit presentation that is to come.
2. On the other hand, it is also noted that the campers may not be too engaged in the game because some may be nervous ahead of the skit presentation. Therefore the duration of this game would only last for 15 minutes.
3. The game involves getting the groups to bomb each other.
4. The twist lies in the sound to be made by the group seeking to bomb another group. I am still trying to think of what sounds can be made for each group.
Wet weather program:
1. The same program could still be held but in the fellowship hall.
2. There may be issues with the venue though.
Roles:
1. Pastor Heng to give the exhortation and light the fire
2. Reginald to be the emcee and game master.
3. Who is leading worship? Who is playing the instrument?
4. Reverend Simon, Aunt Jenny and Pastor Heng are the judges for the skit.
5. Samuel is the man for the PA system
Logistics and preparation:
1. Safety: positioning of fire hose
2. Arrangement of chairs around the carpark (done on Thursday afternoon)
3. PA system: Samuel in charge? Confirm with Samuel on Sunday.
4. Slideshow: Joel will do the slideshows for the camp. Need to find out where to get projector and screen.
5. Campfire: Timothy, David and Joseph to settle this.
6. Materials needed for campfire: camfur, fire starter, twigs, wood, bricks, zinc.
Note:
• Get Jocelyn or Iris to lead in singspiration.
• Invite Rev Ong for the campfire night and to be one of the judges.
• Call Bro Joseph Mok for help
